Every year, I look forward to Spring!   I set out the patio furniture with new or freshened cushions and fill my containers with fresh flowers and plants.   Next, I invite friends and family over so we can all enjoy dinner on the patio.   Then they strike!!!!!   Those pesky mosquitoes start biting and everyone moves indoors…might as well be Winter!!!   Well, that doesn’t have to happen to you or me ever again!   Purchase a Mosquito Shoo Geranium (better known as the Mosquito Plant) and watch the mosquitoes disappear.    There is only one variety of this plant and its leaves produce citronella, which is used in bug repellents.   The geranium still produces beautiful flowers so it has a two-fold purpose, keeps bugs away and adds beauty!!!   This plant grows well in either pots or gardens and grows from 1′ to 2′ tall.   The flowers are lavender in color and blossom in clusters of 5 or more flowers.  Just to let you know, the plants don’t always release enough oils to act as a repellent.    The leaves must be crushed or bruised in order to release the citronella.   For best results, the plant needs full sun and well-drained soil.   They will not tolerate frost so must be brought indoors during the Winter.   Water regularly and fertilize monthly with a balanced soluble fertilizer or high phosphate fertilizer.    For more information, go to:   www.ehow.comand .  all pictures came from:  images.search.yahoo.com.
